SHOPPING
Look for myriacfcoleusvarietiesat nurseries—
buy only stocky, well-branched plants. Check
with thegardener at the nursery for each
cultivar’s sun tolerance, height, and spacing
requirements. For containers, purchase an
all-purpose pottingsoil.
PLANTING
Coleus needs fertile, well-drained soil. Before
planting, loosen garden soil with a spading fork
and mix in compost. Coleusesare best suited to
pots. The height of the plant will depend on the
pot—the larger the pot, the more space the
roots havetogrow. Hence, the tallerthe plant.
GROWING
Water as necessary to keep soil moist but not
soggy. Containers may need to be watered daily.
In thegarden, mulch plants to conservesoil
moistureand shade out weeds. Plants with
big-sized leaves need an NPK feed once in two
months. You can shape the plant as you wish.
